Investigating

Many children are fearful of Maths. They are worried about getting things wrong and are unwilling to take risks.

As a result, many of them never experience the joy of discovering new ideas and forever see Maths as something to be endured, rather than enjoyed.

An investigative approach, where children are encouraged to explore and experiment, can increase their confidence dramatically, as they begin to realise that Maths is all about patterns and start expecting it to 'make sense'.

Maths Investigations will provide you with everything you need to develop this approach in your classroom or across your whole school.

The photocopiable investigations will provide you with interesting cross-curricular contexts for your pupils to explore... and the online skill checks, pattern builders and investigations will allow your children to make up and try their own questions and investigate their own errors, adjusting their level to provide just the right degree of challenge.

Welcome to the world of Maths Investigations!

"I like the fact that if you get a question wrong you are not told what the answer is. It makes me want to think! Also, it helps you understand why and how maths works!" (A - age 11)

"You can make up your own questions at your own level and go at your own speed. And there is no limit to how hard or easy you can make it!" (A - age 11)
