Wake Up Chum

This is a hilarious activity which helps consolidate the concept of place value. Practise counting up and down in 1s, 2s and 10s with the help of the caterpillar and the frog.

It’s particularly helpful for learning to count correctly 'over the hundred'. (eg 280, 290, 300, 310, 320) and over the thousand (3668, 3768, 3868, 3968, 4068, 4168 etc)

You need a stick and some button thread to make the kit, and there’s a bit of threading of hole punched paper, but it’s well worth it for the fun the children get from it.

Once they’ve played this one or two times, they really ‘get it’ with place value.
