Why do children find Maths difficult?

When children struggle with Maths, there are gaps in their learning.

Everything in Maths builds on everything else. If you have gaps at the early levels and try to learn more, you just get confused. You end up learning rules but not really understanding what is going on. Even children who seem to be doing well can have major gaps in their understanding which cause problems later.

Meanwhile, the ones that have understood everything still make 'silly mistakes' because they haven't spent enough time practising. We've all been too keen to push them on to the next level to quickly...

Whether we're teachers or parents, we need a way of discovering exactly where each child's gaps are, and a bank of targeted activities which help fill them - a mixture of practical games that children can do away from the computer that go hand in hand with engaging activities for tablets.

Here you will find colourful, interactive tablet activities that children can work on unaided; and printable game-type activities that are extraordinarily effective in helping children to memorise their key facts. Used together, they form a powerful combination.

The Maths Investigations Learning Wall is a simple visual guide to exactly where your children's gaps are and what you need to do together to fill them.

You children start by taking a series of tests that flag up the skills that are not secure. Then you are led to practical and tablet-based activities that target the specific concepts and skills they need to learn. Some of the activities you will work on together. Others they can work on alone.

To guide the children on their way are the Wise Owls, each responsible for a different level of the wall. And to help you as a parent or teacher, there are detailed explanations for each of the activities and the skills they are designed to teach.

This will be an adventure you and your children will embark on together. If you are a teacher, it will revolutionise your Maths teaching and make it far more rewarding. If you are a parent you will come to understand Maths in a new way.
